Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying, Ask thee a
sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in
height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I
tempt the Lord. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of Da-
vid; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye
weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give
you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
and shall call his name Immanuel.
ing to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide
the spoil. For Thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and
the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the
day of Midian. For every battle of the warrior is with con-
fused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be
with burning and fuel of fire. For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no
end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order
it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice, from
henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will
perform this.
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, “Arise,
and go down to the potter's house, and there will I cause thee
to hear my words.” Then I went down to the potter's house,
and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the
vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hands of the
potter; so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good
to the potter to make it. Then the word of the Lord came to
me, saying, "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this
potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the pot-
ter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel."
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of
the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I
was a husband unto them, saith the Lord; but this shall be the
covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After
those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward
parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God,
and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more
every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of
them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more
The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the
spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley
which was full of bones, and caused me to pass by them round
about. And behold there were very many in the open valley,
and, lo, they were very dry. And He said unto me,
Man, can these bones live?" And I answered, “O Lord
God, Thou knowest."
