Biography

STEPHEN WARFIELD GAMBRILL was born near Savage, Howard County, Md., October 2, 1873; attended the common schools and Maryland Agricultural College; was graduated from the law department of Columbian College (now George Washington University), Washington, D. C., in 1896; was admitted to the bar in 1897 and commenced the practice of law in Baltimore, Md.; member of the State house of delegates 1920-22; served in the State senate in 1924; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sidney E. Mudd; reelected to the Sixty-ninth and to the seven succeeding Congresses, and served from November 4, 1924, until his death in Washington, D. C., December 19, 1938, before the beginning of the Seventysixth Congress, to which he had been reelected; interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Md.), near Washington, D. C.
