The Life of Richard Bentley, D.D.Thoemmes Press, 2003 - 928 páginas Richard Bentley (1662-1742) was one of the greatest classical scholars of all time. He was a friend of Isaac Newton (whose ideas he expounded in his Boyle Lectures), and a very disputatious and influential Master of Trinity College, Cambridge for 40 years. This biography, written by the Bishop of Gloucester, was the first life of Bentley, and remains the most detailed. Besides Bentley's remarkable life story, it contains much information about the literary history of the period, and about the development of Cambridge University. |
