THE YOUTH'S COMPANION; OR A SAFE GUIDE TO EMINENCE. COMPILED LIBRARY BY AMATOR VIRTUTIS. ANDOVER PRINTED BY FLAGG AND GOULD. 1820. Price, 62 cts. ADVERTISEMENT. MANY men, whose natural talents have been of the best kind, and who have enjoyed every advantage for improving these talents, and for rising to distinguished erience and usefulness in the world, have been destitute of virtuous principles of action, and on this account have sunk below the proper level of rational beings, and proved curses to themselves and to their fellow men. The object of the “SAFE GUIDE TO EMINENCE" is to lay before the minds of young men who are preparing for public life such senti ments, as, if duly attended to, will enable them to avoid the rocks on which so many have suffered shipwreck. The compiler believes that the fathers and instructors of such youth will find in this book a valuable assistant; and he will think himself more than compensated for the time spent in preparing it for the public, if one youth shall receive from the perusal of it such impressions as shall strengthen his virtuous resolutions, and increase his ardour for improving in genuine excellence.
