17 I'm poor and needy, yet the Lord Thou art my help and saviour, PSALM XLI. THIS Psalm, being spoken also in one person, and interpreted, John xii. 18. by the Lord concerning himself, when betrayed by Judas, perfectly ascertains, in like manner, the meaning and true application of these two following ones, viz. Psal. xxvii. and lv. with their parallels. 1 B Behold the Lord, the Lord of all, To save him in his awful hour!- Of Judas' base and treach'rous heart : Who from the Lord their God depart! LESSED is he that wisely doth 2 God will him keep, yea, save alive; Thou wilt him not upgive. 3 God will give strength when he on bed 4 I said, O Lord, do thou extend R O do thou heal my soul; for why? I have offended thee. 5 Those that to me are enemies, When shall he die, that so his name 6 To see me if he comes, he speaks 7 My haters jointly whispering, 8 Mischief, say they, cleaves fast to him; He li'th, and shall not rise. 9 Yea, ev'n mine own familiar friend, Who ate my bread, ev'n he his heel 10 But, Lord, be merciful to me, 11 By this I know that certainly 12 But as for me, thou me uphold'st And me before thy countenance 13 The Lord, the God of Israel, * PSALM XLII. To save transcribing, read the parallels in the margin, with others which your own good sense will suggest, particularly these two, viz. Psal. lxiii. and lxxxiv. whose illustrations see. As hunted hart for water brays, THE TITLE PARAPHRASED. I to the conqu'ring King will sing, LIKE as the hart for water-brooks So pants my longing soul, O God, 2 My soul for God, the living God, 3 My tears have unto me been meat, * Prose Psalms of the Bible. 4 My soul is poured out in me, With them into God's house I went 50 why art thou cast down, my soul; Trust God, for I shall praise him yet, 6 My God, my soul's cast down in me; 8 His loving-kindness yet the Lord His song's with me by night; to God, By whom I live, I'll pray: 9 And I will say to God my rock, Why me forgett'st thou so? Why, for my foes' oppression, Thus mourning do I go? 10 'Tis as a sword within my bones, When my foes me upbraid; Ev'n when by them, Where is thy God? 'Tis daily to me said. 11 O why art thou cast down, my soul? Art thou disquieted in me? For yet I know I shall him praise, Who graciously to me The health is of my countenance, PSALM XLIII. THE illustration the same as the last. See how the Lord of glory pleads, And judge him by his law severe ! JUDGE me, O God, and plead my cause From the unjust and crafty man, O be thou my salvation. 2 For thou the God art of my strength; Why do I mourning go? 30 send thy light forth and thy truth; Let them be guides to me, 1 And bring me to thine holy hill, 4 Then will I to God's altar go, Yea, God, my God, thy name to praise 5 Why art thou then cast down, my soul? |
