happiness or wo; and may not our turn come next?— Are we prepared? And in that awful hour, what will beauty avail us? Beauty is not a passport to happiness, nor will it save us in that dreadful day, when heaven, and earth, and man, shall pass awaypass away" When Thou, with rebukes, dost correct man for iniquity, Thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth. Surely every man is vanity!

Secondly. Not to trust in human beauty: for, since it will not insure salvation, of what profit is it? "O Lord! give us help from trouble, for vain is the help of man." "Trust in the Lord for evermore; for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.”

It is a common practice among Christians of the present day, to call the Scriptures the Word of God. But this is the word preached to you the word of the Lord that endures for ever. Now, if by this term is meant, that the Scripture is written by Divine inspiration-so it is but, since this term is applied to Jesus Christ, and the teachings of the Spirit, by the Bible itself, it surely is better to apply

the name to that for which we have Divine authority. If we were to apply it to both, the Scriptures would be probably confounded with the Spirit that dictated them - the letter with the essence precept with example.5

2. There is one God, the Maker of heaven and earth.

3. There is a resurrection of the just and unjust the former will be for ever happy; the latter always miserable.

4. Principles can be contemplated by reason only.

PRINCIPLES.

66

1. God is the source of all good and all happiness; for "every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above; and cometh down from the Father of lights." This, then, is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." All good is from the Father of lights - God is light― God was in the beginning-God is the source of all good and happiness. This doctrine, being founded upon the New Testament, is irrefutable - by Axiom 1.

2. "There are Three that bear record in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these Three are One."

The truth of this may be readily deduced from Axiom 1.

3. Adam fell from a holy state, became degenerated, and his posterity are involved in his transgression.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord."-Rom. vi. 23.

These principles are the fundamentals of the Christian religion.
