And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought and he went and beheaded him in the prison, And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the 25 26 27 28 : I ask? (And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would 7 do.) Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them 8 may take a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley-loaves, and two small fishes: but 10 what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. (Now there was much grass in the place.) So the men sat down in number above five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as 12 much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley-loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that Prophet that should come into the world. 11 13 14 23 24 25 LESSON CCX. Jesus walks upon the Sea. MATT. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray and when the evening was come, he was there alone. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; It is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the 80 ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning 81 to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. LESSON CCXI. Our Lord's Discourse in the Synagogus at Capernaum. JOHN VI. V. 22. } The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone; (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had 24 given thanks :) When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily; verily, I say unto Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
