Chap. xxiii. 17 David alfo commanded all the Princes of Ifrael to help Solomon his on, Saying,

18 Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you reft on every fide? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand, and the land is fubdued before the LORD, and before his people.

19 Now fet your heart and your foul to feek the LORD your God, arife therefore, and build ye the fanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy veffels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.

CHA P. XXIII.

1 Solomon made king. 2 The Levites ordered. 7 The fons of Gershon, 12 Kohath, 21 and Merari.

O when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his fon king over Ifrael.

2 And he gathered together all the princes of Ifrael, with the priefts and the Levites.

3 Now the Levites were numbred from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thoufand.

4 Of which, twenty and four thoufand were to fet forward the work of the houfe of the LORD and fix thousand were officers and judges.

5 Moreover, four thousand were porters, and four thousand praised the LORD with the inftruments which I made (faid David) to praise therewith.

6 And David divided them into courfes among the fons of Levi, namely, Gerfhon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 Of the Gerfhonites were Laadan and Shimei.

8 The fons of Laadan, the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 The fons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. Thefe were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

10 And the fons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, and Jeufh, and Beriah. These four were the fons of Shimei.

11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the fecond: but Jeufh and Beriah had not many fons: therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their fathers house.

12 The fons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 The fons of Amram; Aaron and Mofes and Aaron was feparated, that

offices of the Levites. he fhould fanctifie the moft holy things, he and his fons for ever, to burn incenfe before the LORD, to minifter unto him, and to blefs in his name for ever.

14 Now concerning Mofes the man of God, his fons were named of the tribe of Levi.

15 The fons of Mofes were, Gershom and Eliezer.

16 Of the fons of Gerfhom, Shebuel was the chief.

17 And the fons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other fons; but the fons of Rehabiak were very many.

18 Of the fons of Izhar; Shelomich the chief.

19 Of the fons of Hebron; Jeriah the firft, Amariah the fecond, Jehaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 Of the fons of Uzziel; Micah the firft, and Jefiah the fecond.

21 The fons of Merari; Mahli, and Mufhi: the fons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish:

22 And Eleazar died, and had no fons, but daughters and their brethren the fons of Kifh took them.

23 The fons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 Thefe were the fons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the houfe of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.

25 For David faid, The LORD God of Ifrael hath given reft unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerufalem for ever;

26 And alfo unto the Levites: they fhall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any veffels of it for the fervice thereof.

27 For by the laft words of David, the Levites were numbred from twenty years old and above:

28 Because their office was to wait on the fons of Aaron, for the fervice of the houfe of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the fervice of the house of God;

29 Both for the fhew-bread, and for the fine flour for meat-offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fryed, and for all manner of measure and fize:

30 And to ftand every morning

The divifion of

31 And to offer all burnt-facrifices unto the LORD in the fabbaths, in the new-moons, and on the fat feafts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them continually before the LORD:

32 And that they fhould keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the fons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.

CHA P. XXIV.

The divifions of the fons of Aaron into four and twenty orders. 20 The Kohathites, 27 and Merarites divided by lot.

Ow thefe are the divifions of the

ron; Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar, and Ithamar executed the priefts office.

And David diftributed them, both Zadok of the fons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the fons of Ithamar,according to their offices in their fervice.

4 And there were mo chief men. found of the fons of Eleazar, than of the fons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided: Among the fons of Eleazar there were fixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the fons of Ithamar, according to the house of their fathers.

5 Thus were they divided by lot, one fort with another; for the governors of the fanctuary, and governors of the houfe of God, were of the fons of Eleazar, and of the fons of Ithamar.

11 The ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah,

12 The eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,

13 The thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jefhebeab,

14 The fifteenth to Bilgah, the fixteenth to Immer,

15 The feventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphies,

16 The nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel,

17 The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul,

18 The three and twentieth to Delai ah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

19 Thefe were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the

20 And the reft of the fons of Levi were thefe: Of the fons of Amram ; Shubael: of the fons of Shubael; Jehdeiah.

21 Concerning Rehabiah: of the fons of Rehabiah, the firft was Isfhiah. 22 Of the Izharites; Shelomoth: of the fons of Shelomoth; Jahach.

23 And the fons of Hebron ; Jeriah the firft, Amariah the fecond, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

24 Of the fons of Uzziel; Michah: of the fons of Michah; Shamir.

25 The brother of Michah was Iffhiah: of the fons of Isfhiah; Zechariah.

26 The fons of Merari were, Mahli and Mufhi: the fons of Jaaziah; Beno. 27 The fons of Merari by Jaaziah; Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri.

28 Of Mahli came Elcazar, who had no fons.

29 Concerning Kish: the fon of Kish was Jerahmeel.

30 The fons alfo of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the fons of the Levites, after the houfe of their fathers.

6 And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king and the princes, and Zadok the prieft, and Ahimelech the fon of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal houfhold being taken 31 Thefe likewife caft lots over against for Eleazar, and one taken for Itha-their brethren the fons of Aaron, in the prefence of David the king, and Zadok and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.

Moreover, David and the captains

of the hoft feparated to the fervice of the fons of Afaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who fhould prophefie with harps, with pfalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen, according to their service,

was:

2 Of the fons of Afaph; Zaccur, and Jofeph, and Nethaniah, and Afarelah, the fons of Afaph under the hands of Afaph, which prophefied according to the order of the king.

3 Of Jeduthun: the fons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jefhaiah, Hafhabiah, and Matithiah, fix, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophefied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.

Of Heman: the fons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti,and Romamti-ezer, Jofhbekafhah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:

5 All these were the fons of Heman the kings feer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen fons and three daughters.

6 All these were under the hands of their father, for fong in the houfe of the LORD with cymbals, pfalteries and harps, for the fervice of the house of God, according to the kings order, to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were inftructed in the fongs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred four core and eight.

17 The tenth to Shimei, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

18 The eleventh to Azareel, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve: 19 The twelfth to Hafhabiah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve: 20 The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve: 21 The fourteenth to Mattithiah,be, his fons and his brethren were twelve: 22 The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

23 The fixteenth to Hananiah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

24 The feventeenth to Joshbekafhah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

25 The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve: 26 The nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

27 The twentieth to Eliathah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

28 The one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

29 The two and twentieth to Giddalti, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

30 The three and twentieth to Mahazioth, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

31 The four and twentieth to Romamti-ezer, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve.

CHAP. XXVI.

And they caft lots, ward against Oncerning the divifions of the por

9 Now the first lot came forth for Afaph to Jofeph, the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and fons were twelve:

10 The third to Zaccur, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

11 The fourth to Izri, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

12 The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

13 The fixth to Bukkiah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

14 The feventh to Jefharelah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

15 The eighth to Jefhaiah, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve:

16 The ninth to Mattaniaḥ, he, his fons and his brethren were twelve :

4 Moreover, the fons of Obed-edom were, Shemaiah the firft-born, Jehozabad the fecond, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth,

5 Ammiel the fixth, Iffachar the feventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God bleffed him.

6 Alfo unto Shemaiah his son were fons born, that ruled throughout the houfe of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.

26 Which Shelomith and his brethren, were over all the treasures of the dedi. cate things, which David the king and the chief fathers, the captains over thou fands and hundreds, and the captains of the hoft had dedicated.

27 Out of the fpoils won in battles, did they dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD.

28 And all that Samuel the feer, and Saul the fon of Kifh, and Abner the fon of Ner, and Joab the fon of Zeruiah had dedicated, and whofoever had dedica ted any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

16 To Shuppim and Hofah, the lot came forth welt-ward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the cauley of the going up, ward against ward.

17 Eaft-ward were fix Levites, northward four a day, fouth-ward four a day, and toward Afuppim two and two.

30 And of the Hebronites, Hafha biah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and feven hundred, were officers among them of Ifrael on this fide Jordan weft-ward, in all business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.

31 Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebro- c mites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David, they were fought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour, at Jazer of Gilead.

32 And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manaffeh, for every 19 Thefe are the divifions of the por-matter pertaining to God and affairs of ters among the fons of Kore, and among the king. the fons of Merari.

23 Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites. and the Uzzielites: 24 And Shebuel the fon of Gerfhom, the fon of Mofes, was ruler of the treafures.

25 And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his fon, and Jelhaiah his fon, and

Ow the children of Ifrael after their number, to wit, the chief tathers and captains of thousands and hun dreds, and their officers that ferved the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month, throughout all the months of the year, of every coutfe were twenty and four thousand.

2 Over the first course for the first month, was Jefhobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

3 Of the children of Perez, was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

8 The fifth captain for the fifth month, was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his courfe were twenty and four thoufand.

9 The fixth captain for the fixth month, was Ira the fon of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his courfe were twenty and four thousand.

10 The feventh captain for the feventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

11 The eighth captain for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hufhathite, of the Zarhites: and in his courfe were twenty and four thousand.

12 The ninth captain for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

13 The tenth captain for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his courfe were twenty and four thousand.

14 The eleventh captain for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirahonite, of the children of Ephraim: nd in his courfe were twenty and four boufand.

15 The twelfth captain for the twelfth nonth, was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his courfe were tweny and four thousand.

16 Furthermore, over the tribes of Ifrael: the ruler of the Reubenites bas Eliezer the fon of Zichri: of the imeonites, Shephatiah the fon of Maa

22 Of Dan, Azareel the fon of Jercham. Thefe were the princes of the tribes of Ifrael.

23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under because the LORD had faid, he would increase Ifrael like to the ftars of the heavens.

24 Joab the fon of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, becaufe there fell wrath for it against Ifrael, neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.

25 And over the kings treasures was Azmaveth the fon of Adiel: and over the ftore-houfes in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the caftles, was Jehonathan the fon of Uzziah.

26 And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground, was Ezri the fon of Chelub.

27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramachite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine-cellars, was Zabdi the Shiphmite.

28 And over the olive-trees and the fycomore-trees that were in the low plains, was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oyl was Joafh.

29 And over the herds that fed in Sharon, was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys, was Shaphat the fon of Adlai.

30 Over the camels alfo, was Obil the Ifhmeelite: and over the affes, was Jehdeiah the Meronothite.

31 And over the flocks, was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the fubftance which was king Da❤ vids.

32 Alfo Jonathan Davids uncle was a counfeller, a wife man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the fon of Hachmoni was with the kings fons.

33 And Ahithophel was the kings counfeller, and Hufhai the Archite was the kings companion.

34 And after Ahithophel, was Jehofada the fon of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the kings army was Joab,
