8 And I have been with thee whitherfoever thou halt walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

9 Alfo I will ordain a place for my people Ifrael, and will plant them, and they fhall dwell in their place, and fhall be moved no more; neither hall the children of wickednefs wafte them any more: (as at the beginning,

10 And fince the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Ifrael) moreover, I will fubdue all thine enemies. Furthermore, I tell thee, that the LORD will build thee an houfe.

David Jubdueth the Philistines. Chap. xviii, xix.

21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Ifrael, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatnefs and terriblenefs, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou haft redeemed out of Egypt?

22 For thy people Ifrael didft thou make thine own people for ever, and thou, LORD, becameft their God.

23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou haft spoken concerning thy fervant, and concerning his house, be eftablifhed for ever, and do as thou haft faid.

24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, faying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Ifrael, even a God to Ifrael: and let the houfe of David thy fervant be eftablifhed before thee.

25 For thou, O my God, haft told thy fervant, that thou wilt build him an houfe: therefore thy fervant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

26 And now, LORD, ( thou art God, and haft promised this goodness unto thy fervant)

27 Now therefore let ft please_thee to blefs the house of thy fervant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou bleffeft, O LORD, and it shall be bleffed for ever.

7 And David took the fhields of gold that were on the fervants of Hedarezer, and brought them to Jerufalem.

8 Likewife from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brazen fea, and the pil lars, and the veffels of brass.

Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had fmitten all the hoft of Hadarezer king of Zobah:

10 He fent Hadoram his fon to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and fmitten him, (for Hadarezer had warred with Tou) and with him all manner of veffels of gold, and filver, and brass.

3 But the princes of the children of Ammon faid to Hanun, Thinkeft thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath fent comforters unto thee? are not his fervants come unto thee for to fearch, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

4 Wherefore Hanun took Davids fervants, and fhaved them, and cut off their garments in the midft hard by their buttocks, and fent them away.

5 Then there went certain, and told David how the men were ferved; and be fent to meet them (for the men were greatly afhamed) and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

6 And when the children of Ammon faw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon fent a thousand talents of filver to hire them chariots and horfemen out of Mefopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.

7 So they hired thirty and two thoufand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

8 And when David heard of it, he fent Joab, and all the hoft of the mighty

9 And the children of Ammon came our, and put the battle in aray before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come, were by themselves in the field.

10 Now when Joab faw that the battle was fet against him, before and behind, he chofe out of all the choice of Ifrael, and put them in aray against the Syrians.

11 And the reft of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they fet themselves in aray againft the children of Ammon.

12 And he faid, If the Syrians be too ftrong for me, then thou fhalt help me but if the children of Ammon be too ftrong for thee, then I will help thee.

17 And it was told David, and he ga thered all Ifrael, and paffed over Jordan, and came upon them, and fet the battle in aray against them: fo when David had put the battle in aray against the Syrians, they fought with him.

2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious ftones in it, and it was fet upon Davids head; and he brought alfo exceeding much spoil out of the city.

3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with faws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes: even fo dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Je rufalem.

Nd Satan ftood up against Ifrael, and provoked David to number

2 And David faid to Joab, and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Ifrael from Beer-fheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

3 And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times fo many mo as they be but my lord the king, are they not all my lords fervants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a caufe of trefpafs to Ifrael?

4 Nevertheless, the kings word prevailed against Joab: wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerufalem.

5 And Joab gave the fum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Ifrael were a thousand thoufand and an hundred thousand men that drew fword: and Judah was four hundred threfcore and ten thousand men that drew fword.

6 But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the kings word was abominable to Joab.

7 And God was difpleafed with this thing, therefore he fmote Ifrael.

8 And David faid unto God, I have finned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy fervant, for I have done very foolishly,

9 And the LORD fpake unto Gad, Davids feer, faying,

13 And David faid unto Gad, I am in a great ftrait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD, (for very great are. his mercies) but let me not fall into the hand of man.

14 So the LORD fent peftilence upon Ifrael and there fell of Ifrael feventy thousand men.

15 And God fent an angel unto Jerufalem to deftroy it: and as he was deftroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and faid to the angel that deftroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD ftood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

16 And David lift up his eyes, and faw the angel of the LORD ftand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn fword in his hand ftretched out over Jerufalem: then David and the elders of Ifrael, who were clothed in fackcloth, fell upon their faces.

17 And David faid unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbred? even I it is that have finned and done evil indeed; but as for thefe fheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my fathers houfe, but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

18 Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to fay to David, that David fhould go up and fet up an altar unto the LORD, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebufite.

19 And David went up at the faying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

20 And Ornan turned back, and faw the angel; and his four fons wth him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
