In consequence of several deaths and retirements, and also of the revocation of the appointments of the solicitors for pauper cases in the country, the charge on the Chief Registrar's Account has recently been considerably reduced, and at the date of this return (7th February 1865) the salaries, compensations, and retiring annuities amount to 106,149 l. 12 s. 7 d.; viz., Salaries, 74,100l.; Compensations, 14,796 l. 5 s. 11 d.; and Retiring Annuities, 17,253 l. 12 s. 7 d. The salaries of the messengers (6,000 l. per annum) are deducted by them out of their fees, the balance being paid over to the Chief Registrar's Account. 7 February 1865. J. F.
