HYMNS FOR THE DAY. Morning. 1. L. M. A FIRST PART. WAKE, my soul, and with the sun Redeem thy mis-spent moments past, Let all thy converse be sincere, Wake and lift up thyself, my heart, 1. SECOND PART ALL praise to Thee who safe hast kept, Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake, may of endless life partake. I Lord, I my vows to Thee renew, Scatter my sins as morning dew, Guard my first springs of thought and will, And with Thyself my spirit fill. Direct, control, suggest this day, All I design, or do, or say; That all my powers with all their might Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. ON NCE more we hail the day-spring bright, May guide us through the day; May guard from word or deed of wrong, While swift the hours successive flow, Subservient to Thine honour, Lord, Begun, continued at Thy word, And lest the flesh, with license rude, All praise to God the Father, Son, As was, and is, and shall be done, Through all eternity. 3. CHRIST, our only Hope, to Thee With humble pray'r that Thou wilt deign Dark is the soul, and needs Thy light To make her pure and clean; C.M. That light which gladdens heav'n shew forth, So may our minds the radiant beams So may our hearts, by Thee enflam'd, So may our tongues, inspir'd by Thee, NOW 4. OW that the Day-star mounts the sky, That He in all we do or say, L.M. From harm may keep us through the day ;— May set a watch upon our tongue, To guard from strife or word of wrong, Pure be our hearts within; far hence By rules of temperance, let pride That when the day is past and gone, To God the Father laud be done, Now, and through Heav'n's eternal days. |
