NOW

Evening.

15.

OW that the daylight dies away,
Ere we lie down to sleep,

Thee, Maker of the world, we pray
Us from all harm to keep.

Ill dreams and ghostly foes bid fly,
And fears that haunt the night;
Keep us like shrines beneath Thine eye,
Pure in foul fiend's despite.

Father, this grace on us confer,
Through Jesus Christ Thy Son,
Who with the blessed Comforter
And Thee reigns ever One.

8, 7, (Six).

HROUGH the day Thy love has spar'd us,

Now we lay

Now we lay us down to rest:

Through the silent watches guard us,

Let no foe our peace molest;

Jesus, Thou our Guardian be,

Sweet it is to trust in Thee.

Pilgrims here on earth and strangers,
Dwelling in the midst of foes,
Us and ours preserve from dangers,

In Thine arms may we repose; And when life's short day is past, Rest with Thee in heaven at last.

17.

YLORY to Thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Beneath Thy own almighty wings!

Forgive me, Lord, for Thy dear Son,
The ills that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and Thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

dread

Teach me to live, that I may
The grave as little as my bed;
To die, that this vile body may
Rise glorious at the awful day.

Oh! may my soul on Thee repose,
And may sweet sleep mine eyelids close;
Sleep, that may me more vig'rous make
To serve my God when I awake.

L. M.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

FROM ADVENT TO EPIPHANY.

18.

SUN of my soul! Thou Saviour dear,

It is not night if Thou be near:

Oh! may no earth-born cloud arise
To hide Thee from Thy servant's eyes.

When the soft dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eylids gently steep,
Be my last thought, how sweet to rest
For ever on my Saviour's breast.

Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live;
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without Thee I dare not die.

Come near and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take,
Till in the ocean of Thy love

We lose ourselves in heav'n above.

L.M.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

FROM EPIPHANY TO LENT.

19.

OURCE of light and power divine,
Making day with brightness shine,
Who, ere earth was fram'd, didst call
Light from darkness first of all.

Morn and eve, in meet array,
Who didst join and name them Day,
Now night's gloomy shades draw near,
To our suppliant cries give ear.

Let us not, by guilt deprest,
Lose the way to endless rest;
Let not thoughts impure and vain
Down to earth our spirits chain.

Rather lift them to the skies,
Where our dearest treasure lies;
Help us in our daily strife,
Help to win the prize of life.

Now with pray'rs importunate,

Knocking hard at heaven's high gate ;

May we find admission there,

And Thy blissful presence share.

Holy Father, Holy Son,

Holy Spirit, Three in One,

Praise and glory be to Thee,
Now and through eternity.

7's.
