So he make good the Jewels and the Jointure,
To mifs the Heart, does feldom disappoint her.
Faith, for the Fashion Hearts of late are made in,
They are the vilest Bambles we can trade in.

Where are the tough brave BRITONS to be found,
With Hearts of Oak, fo much of Old renown'd?
How many worthy Gentlemen of late

Swore to be true to Mother-Church and State;
When their false Hearts were fecretly maintaining
Yon trim King PEPIN, at Avignon reigning?
Shame on the canting Crew of Soul-Infurers,
That Tyburn-Tribe of speecb-making Non-jurors;
Who in new-fangled Terms, old Truths explaining,
Teach honeft English-men, damn'd Double Meaning.

Oh! would you loft Integrity reftore

And boast that Faith your plain Fore-Fathers bore; I
What furer Pattern can you hope to find,

Than that dear PLEDGE your MONARCH left behind!
See how his Looks his boneft Heart explain,
And fpeak the Bleffings of his future Reign!
In his each feature, Truth, and Candour trace,
And read Plain-Dealing written in his Face.

VERSES

W

made to a Simile of Mr. P O P E'S.

HEN at our houfe the fervants brawl,
And raise an uproar in the Hall;
When John the butler, and our Mary,
About the plate and linnen vary:
Till the smart dialogue grows rich,
In fncaking dog! and ugly bitch!
Down comes my Lady like the Devil,
And makes 'em filent all and civil.
Thus Canon clears the cloudy air
And scatters tempefts brewing there:
Thus Bullies fometimes keep the peace,
And one fcold makes another ceafe.

Majefty and great renown
Wait thy beamy brow to crown,
Parent of our hero, thou,

George on Britain didft beftow.
Thee the trumpet, thee the drum,
With the plumy helm, become:
Thee the fpear and shining shield,
With ev'ry trophy of the warlike field.

III. Call

III.

Call thy better bleffings forth,

For the honour of his birth:

Still, the voice of loud commotion,
Bid complaining murmurs cease,.
Lay, the billows of the ocean;
And compofe the land in peace..

Call the better, &c.

IV.

Queen of odours, fragrant May,
For this boon this happy day,
Janus with the double face
Shall to thee refign his place,
Thou shalt rule with better grace:

Time from thee shall wait his doon,

And thou shalt lead the year for ev'ry age to come.

Fairest Month! in Cafar pride thee,
Nothing like him canft thou bring,
Tho' the graces fmile befide thee :
Tho' thy bounty gives the fpring,

VI.

Tho' like Flora thou array thec,
Finer than the painted bow;
Carolina fhall repay thee

All thy fweetnefs, all thy show.

}

She

She herself a glory greater

Than thy golden fun discloses; And her fmiling offspring fweeter Than the bloom of all thy roses.

Upon NICOLINI and VALENTINI's first coming to the Houfe in the Hay-Market.

A

Mpbion ftrikes the vocal lyre,
And ready at his call,

Harmonious brick and ftone confpire

To raife the Theban wall..

In emulation of his praise

Two Latian feniors come.

A finking Theatre to raife

And prop Van's tottering Dome,

But how this laft fhould come to pafs

Muft ftill remain unknown,

Since thefe poor Gentlemen, alas!

Bring neither brick nor ftone.
