Peace, mildness and gentleness. Mk. 9. 50. Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Rom. 12. 10. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another. 13. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Rom. 14. 19. Let us, therefore, follow after the things that make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

476. Is governing the passions a duty ?

Pr. 16. 32. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.

Pr. 25. 28. He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

477. Does the practice of peace accord with the genius and spirit of the gospel ?

Jn. 18. 36, Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews.

Ac. 7. 59. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.

1 Cor. 4. 12. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; being defamed, we entreat. 1 Cor. 13. 4. Charity suffereth long, and is kind:

seeketh not her own: 7. Beareth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

478. In order to maintain peace on earth, are we required to forgive as we hope to be forgiven?

Pr. 19. 11. The discretion of a man deferreth his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression,

Mat. 6. 12. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

14. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mat. 18. 21. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven, 27. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Mk. 11. 25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any; that your Father also which

1 Pet. 2. 18. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffetted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if, when yé do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. 23. 1 Pet. 3. 8. Love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise, blessing: knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love lise, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
