God shall rise, and shining o'er you,
Change to day the gloom of night,
He, the Lord, shall be your Glory,
God your everlasting Light.

VOKE.

L. M. Dawn of the Millennium.
BEHOLD, the expected time draw near,
The shades disperse, the dawn appear;
The barren wilderness assume

The beauteous tints of Eden's bloom.
2. Events, with prophecies, conspire
To raise our faith, our zeal to fire:
The ripening fields, already white,
Present a harvest to our sight.

3. The untaught heathen waits to know,
The joy the gospel will bestow;
The exiled slave waits to receive,
The freedom Jesus has to give.
4. Come, let us, with a grateful heart,
In the blest labour share a part,
Our prayers and offerings gladly bring,
To aid the triumphs of our King.

C. M. Latter Day Glory of the Church.
LOGAN.

BEHOLD ! the mountain of the Lord,
In latter days shall rise,

Shall tower above the meaner hills,
And draw the wondering eyes.
2. To this the joyful nations round,
All tribes and tongues shall flow:
Up to the hill of God,' they'll say,
And to His temple go.'

3. No strife shall vex Messiah's reign,
Or mar these peaceful years;

To plough-shares men shall beat their swords,
To pruning-hooks their spears.

4. No longer hosts encountering hosts,
Their millions slain deplore;

They hang the useless helm on high,
And study war no more.

5. Come then, O come, from every land,
To worship at His shrine;
And walking in the light of God,
With holy beauty shine.

422

L. M. The same.

JESUS, descending from the skies,
Shall form a bright and dazzling day:
The saints shall view with sweet surprise,
His grand,-His universal sway!

2. The lion and the lamb shall feed
Together, in His peaceful reign;
And Zion, blest with heavenly bread,
Shall never more of wants complain.

3. The Jew, the Greek, the bond and free,
Shall boast their several rites no more;
But join in sweetest harmony,

Their Lord, their Sovereign to adore.

4. O happy day! when all the elect,
Complete in number shall be found;
And like their great, their mystic Head,
Be with eternal honours crowned!

Collections for the Spread of the Gospel, Hymns 445--447.

On Opening a Place of Worship.

ARISE, O King of grace, arise,
And enter to thy rest;

WATTS.

Lo! thy Church waits with longing eyes,
Thus to be owned and blest.

2. Enter with all thy glorious train,
Thy Spirit and thy word;
All that the ark did once contain,
Could no such grace afford.

3. Here, mighty God, accept our vows,
Here let thy praise be spread;
Bless the provisions of thy house,
And fill thy poor with bread.
4. Here let the Son of David reign,
Let God's Anointed shine;
Justice and truth his court maintain,
With love and power divine.

5. Here let him hold a lasting throne ;
And as his kingdom grows,

Fresh honours shall adorn his crown,
And shame confound his foes.

L. M. The same.

C. WESLEY.

GREAT God, thy watchful care we bless,
Which guards those sacred courts in peace,
Nor dare tumultuous foes invade,

To fill thy worshippers with dread.

2. These walls we to thy honour raise,
Long may they echo with thy praise !
And Thou, descending, fill the place
With choicest tokens of thy grace.

3. And in the great decisive day, When God the nations shall survey, May it before the world appear,

That crowds were born to glory here!

425 8.7. Invitation to join a Church. GRINFIELD. YE to Sion are invited,

Scene of love, by Jesus trod;

We in Salem dwell delighted,
Heavenly city of our God.

2. Join the general congregation,
Of the first-born heirs of light:
In the volume of salvation,
Every name is written bright.

3. Come to God, the Judge eternal,
Yea, approach with holy trust;
And to those in bliss supernal,
Perfect spirits of the just.

4. Come to that dear blood of Jesus,
Sprinkled on the heart, which speaks
Better things than Abel's; frees us
From the curse that Justice wreaks;-
5. Better things than Abel's offering;
Since those sacrifices old,

Did but shadow forth the suffering
Of the Lamb we now behold.

426 L. M. Joy over a Sinner's Conversion. WATTS. WHO can describe the joys that rise Through all the courts of paradise,

To see a prodigal return,

To see an heir of glory born?

2. With joy the Father doth approve,
The fruit of his eternal love;

The Son with joy looks down, and sees
The purchase of his agonies.

3. The Spirit takes delight to view
The holy soul he formed anew;
And saints and angels join to sing,
The growing empire of their King.

427 s. M. Excellency of Gospel Worship and Order.

2.

FAR as thy name is known,

The world declares thy praise;

WATTS.

Thy saints, O Lord, before thy throne,
'Their songs of honour raise.

Let strangers walk around

The city where we dwell;

Compass and view thine holy ground,
And mark the building well;

3. The orders of thy house,
The worship of thy court,

4.

The cheerful songs, the solemn vows,
And make a fair report.

How decent and how wise,
How glorious to behold!

Beyond the

pomp that charms their And rites adorned with gold.

eyes,

5.

The God we worship now,

Will guide us till we die;

Will be our God while here below

And ours above the sky.
