fender of the Faith, &c. To all to whom these prefents fhall come greeting.

Whe our trufty and well-beloved ALEX. HOGG, of Paternofter-Row, in our City of London, Bo feller, hath by his petition humbly reprefented unto Us, that he has, at the request of a great ni ber of his Corefpondents in different parts of our Kingdoms (who are diffatisfied with the Exe tion of former Works of the Kind herein defcribed) employed, at a very great Expence, m learned Perfons to write and compile an extenfive Variety of fuitable pieces, fuch as Effays, 1 lertations, and other productions on various fubjects, folely calculated for the Ufe and Amuler of the Ladies of Great-Britain and Ireland, &c. Which pieces the Petitioner is now about to lih, under the Title of the NEW LADY's MAGAZINE, or polite and entertaining Compan for the Fair Sex, being devoted intirely to their Ufe and Entertainment, and executed on a new. improved plan, and to be continued on the firit Day of every Month. The Petitioner has a with much Labour and Expence, procured many original Drawings, Defigns, and Copper-Plai by the belt artifs, to embellish and illustrate the faid periodical Undertaking; and moreover engaged, in confequence of a valuable Confideration, the Rev. Mr. CHARLES STANHOPE digeft the aforefaid Materials, and to fuperintend the Monthly publication of the faid NE LADY'S MAGAZINE. Therefore, as the perfecting the fame has been attended with very gr Care, Labour, Study, and Expence, the Petitioner is defirous that Himself, his Heirs, and Affigy may reap all advantages from the Sle thereof. To this End, the Petitioner, knowing that Wes ever defirous of encouraging every attempt to diffufe ufeful Knowledge among our fubjects, pl fumes, with the utmott Humility, to folicit our Royal Licence and Protection to Himfelt, his He Exécutors and Aligns, for the fole printing, publishing, and vending, of the faid Work. W being willing to give all due Encouragement to his undertaking, are graciously pleafed to co defcend to the Petitioner's Request; and we do therefore by thefe preients, as far as may agreeable to the nature in that Cafe made and provided, grant unto him, the faid ALEX. HOG his Executors, Adminitrators and Aligns, our Royal Licence and Authority, for the fole prinun publishing, and vending the faid work, ftrictly forbidding all our fubjects, within our Kingdor or Dominions, to reprint or abridge the fame, either in the like, or in any fize or manner wha ever; or to import, buy, vend, utter, or diftribute any Copies thereof, reprinted beyond the Sta without the Confent or Approbation of the faid ALEX. HOGG, his Executors, Adminirate and Affigns, under their Han's and Seals first had and obtained, as they will answer the contrary their Peril. Where of the Commisioners and other Officers of our Customs, the Mafter, Warde and Company of Stationers are to take Notice, that due Obedience be rendered to our Pleafu herein declared. Given at our Court at St. James's.
