JESUS MAKES THE DUMB TO SPEAK.

to be call-ed. And they call the blind man, saying un-to him, Be of good com-fort, rise; he call-eth thee.

50, And he, cast-ing a-way his gar-ment, rose, and came to Jesus.

51. And Je-sus an-swer-ed and said un-to him, What wilt thou that I should do un-to thee? The blind man said unto him, LORD, that I might receive my sight.

52. And Je-sus said un-to him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And im-me-diate-ly he re-ceiv-ed his sight, and fol-low-ed Je-sus in the

way.

LESSON X.

JESUS MAKES THE DUMB TO SPEAK.

Mark, Chap. VII.-32. And they bring un-to him one that was deaf, and had an im-ped-i-ment in his speech; and they be-seech him to put his hand up-on him.

33. And he took him a-side from the mul-titude, and put his fing-ers in-to his ears, and he spit, and touch-ed his tongue.

34. And look-ing up to hea-ven, he sigh-ed, and saith un-to him, Eph-pha-tha, that is, Be o-pen-ed. 35. And straight-way his ears were o-pen-ed, and the string of his tongue was loos-ed, and he spake plain.

36. And he charg-ed them that they should tell no man: but the more he charg-ed them, so much the more a great deal did they pub-lish it.

37. And were be-yond mea-sure as-ton-ish-ed, say-ing, He hath done all things well: he ma-keth both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

JESUS RAISETH THE DAUGHTER OF JAIRUS.

Mark, Chap. V.-22. And be-hold there com-eth one of the rulers of the syn-a-gogue, Ja-i-rus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet.

23. And be-sought him great-ly, say-ing, My lit-tle daugh-ter li-eth at the point of death; I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be heal-ed; and she shall live.

35. While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the syn-a-gogue's house cer-tain which said, Thy daugh-ter is dead; why trou-blest thou the Mas-ter any fur-ther?

156

JESUS RAISETH THE DAUGHTER OF JAIRUS.

36. As soon as Je-sus heard the word that was spo-ken, he saith un-to the ru-ler of the syn-a-gogue, Be not a-fraid, only be-lieve.

37. And he suf-fer-ed no man to fol-low him, save Pe-ter and James, and John the bro-ther of James.

38. And he com-eth to the house of the ru-ler of the syn-a-gogue, and se-eth the tu-mult, and them that wept and wail-ed great-ly.

39. And when he was come in, he saith un-to them, Why make ye this a-do, and weep? the dam- · sel is not dead, but sleep-eth.

40. And they laugh-ed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he ta-keth the father and the mo-ther of the dam-sel, and them that were with him, and en-ter-eth in where the dam-sel was ly-ing.

41. And he took the dam-sel by the hand, and said un-to her, Ta-li-tha Cu-mi, which is, be-ing in-ter-pret-ed, Dam-sel, I say un-to thee, a-rise.

42. And straight-way the dam-sel a-rose, and walk-ed; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were as-ton-ish-ed with a great as-ton-ish

ment.

43. And he charg-ed them straight-ly that no man should know it; and com-mand-ed that something should be giv-en her to eat.

LESSON XII.

19. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in be-cause of the mul-titude, they went up-on the house-top and let him down through the ti-ling, with his couch, in-to the midst be-fore Je-sus.

20. And when he saw their faith, he said un-to him, Man, thy sins are for-giv-en thee.

21. And the Scribes and the Pha-ri-sees be-gan to rea-son, say-ing, Who is this which speak-eth blas-phe-mies? Who can for-give sins, but GOD a-lone?

22. But when Je-sus per-ceiv-ed their thoughts, he, an-swer-ing, said un-to them, What rea-son ye in your hearts?

23. Whe-ther is ea-si-er to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

24. But that ye may know that the Son of Man hath pow-er up-on earth to for-give sins (he said un-to the sick of the pal-sy), I say un-to thee, A-rise, and take up thy couch, and go in-to thine house.

25. And im-me-diate-ly he rose up be-fore them, and took up that where-on he lay, and de-part-ed to his own house, glo-ri-fy-ing GOD.

26. And they were all a-ma-zed, and they glo-rifi-ed GOD, and were fill-ed with fear, say-ing, We have seen strange things to-day.

LESSON XIII.

JESUS RAISETH THE WIDOW'S SON.

Luke, Chap. VII.-11. And it came to pass, that he went in-to a cit-y call-ed Na-in; and ma-ny of his dis-ci-ples went with him, and much peo-ple.

158

JESUS RAISETH THE WIDOW'S SON,

12. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the cit-y, be-hold, there was a dead man car-ri-ed out, the on-ly son of his mo-ther, and she was a wid-ow; and much peo-ple of the city was with her.

13. And when the LORD saw her, he had compas-sion on her, and said un-to her, Weep not.

14. And he came and touch-ed the bier; and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say un-to thee, A-rise.

15. And he that was dead sat up, and be-gan to speak. And he de-liv-er-ed him to his mo-ther.

16. And there came a fear on all and they glori-fi-ed GOD, say-ing, That a great pro-phet is ris-en up a-mong us; and, That GOD hath vis-it-ed his peo-ple.

JESUS HEALS THE SICK.

Matt., Chap. IX.-27. And when Je-sus depart-ed thence, two blind men fol-low-ed, cry-ing and say-ing, Thou Son of Da-vid, have mer-cy on us.

28. And Je-sus saith unto them, Be-lieve ye that I am a-ble to do this? They said un-to him, Yea, LORD.

29. Then touch-ed he their eyes, say-ing, Accord-ing to your faith, be it un-to you. 30. And their eyes were o-pen-ed.

Matt.,Chap. XIV.-14. And Je-sus went forth and saw a great mul-ti-tude, and was mov-ed with compas-sion to-wards them, and he heal-ed their sick.

Chap. XV.-31. The mul-ti-tude won-der-ed when they saw the dumb to speak, the maim-ed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see, and they glo-ri-fi-ed the GOD of Is-ra-el.
