Invocation of the Holy Ghost.

VENI SANCTE SPIRitus.

1 COME, Holy Ghost, send down those beains
Which sweetly flow in silent streams,
From thy bright throne above;
Come, thou the Father of the poor,
Thou bounteous source of all our stores,
Come, fire our hearts with love.
2 Come, thou of Comforters the best;
Come, thou the soul's delightful guest,
The pilgrim's sweet relief;
Thou art our rest in toil and sweat,
Refreshment in excessive heat,
And solace in our grief.

30 sacred light, shoot home thy darts,
O pierce the centre of these hearts,
Whose faith aspire to thee;
Without thy Godhead, nothing can
Have any price or worth in man;
Nothing can harmless be.

4 Lord, wash our sinful stains away;
Water from heaven our barren clay;
Our wound and bruises heal:

Tothy sweet yoke, our stiff necks bend;
T' inflame our cold hearts, thy fire send
Our wand'ring feet repeal.

50 grant thy faithful, dearest Lord,
Whose only hope is thy sure word,
The sev'n gifts of thy Spirit;
Grant us in life t' obey thy grace;
Grant us at death, to see thy face,
And endless joys inherit.

GOSPEL. John xiv. 23, 31. At that time: Jesus said to his disciples: If any one love me; he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him: he that loveth me not, keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard, is not mine; but the These things have I spoken

to you, abiding with you. But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. You have heard that I have said to you: I go away and If you loved me, you would I come again to indeed be glad, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe. I will not now speak many things with you. For the prince of this world cometh, and in me he hath not any thing. But that the world may know that I love the Father: and as the Father hath given me commandment, so do I. The

LESSON. Acts x. 42, 48. In those days: Peter opened his mouth, said: Brethren, the Lord commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead. To him all the prophets give testimony, that through his name all receive remission of sins, who believe in him. Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them that heard the word. And the faithful of the circumcision, who came with Peter, were astonished, for that the grace of the Holy Ghost, was poured out upon the Gentiles also. them speaking with tongues, and magnifying God. For they heard Then Peter answered: Can any man forbid water, that these men should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we; And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord

Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL. John iii. 16. At that time: Jesus said to Nicodemus: God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world, but that the world may be saved by him.

He that believeth in him, is not judged. But he that doth not believe is already judged: because he believeth not in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the judgment; because the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were ev!. For every one that doth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his works may not be reproved. But he that doth truth, cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, because they are done in God. The Creed.

GOSPEL. John x. 1, 10. At that time: Jesus said to the Pharisees; Amen, amen, I say to you: he that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he hath let out his own sheep, he goeth before them; and the sheep followeth him; because they know his voice. But a stranger they follow not. but fly from him, because they know not the voice of strangers. But they understood not what he spoke to them, This proverb Jesus spoke to them. Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All others as many as have come, are thieves and robbers: and the sheep heard them not. if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall I am the door. By me go in, and go out, and shall find pastures. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly. The Creed.

OFFERT. Ps. lxxvii. The Lord opened for them the gates of heaven, and rained down manna for them to eat: he gave them the bread of heaven, men eat the bread of angels. Alleluia.
