EPISTLE. 2 Cor. viii. 16.

RETHREN: I render thanks to God, that he hath inspired the heart of Titus with the same solicitude for you; for he not only accepted my exhortation thereto; but, being more than ordinary zealous, he went of his own accord to you. We have sent also with him the brother, whose praise is in the Gospel throughout all the Churches and not only so, but who was also ordained by the Churches to accompany us in our travels, to carry that grace which is distributed by us, to the glory of the Lord, and according to our determined will. Thus avoiding being reproached, on account of this abundance of charities, that are distributed by us. For we forecast what will be just, not only before God, but also before men. We have likewise sent with them our brother, whom we have often experienced to have been diligent on many occasions; but on this occasion much more diligent, for the great confidence I have in you, whether for Titus, who is my companion, and assisted me in your concern, or our brethren, who are the Apostles of the Churches, and the glory of Christ. Shew therefore to them, in presence of the Churches, the proof of your charity, and of our boasting on your behalf.

Confessor, and shewing mercy to others, we may, by his merits, obtain mercy of thee. Thro'.

EPISTLE. James ii. 12. 17.

O speak ye, and so do, as being to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment without mercy to him, that hath not done mercy and mercy exalteth itself above judgment. What shall it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but hath not works? Shall faith be able to save him? And if a brother or sister be naked, and want daily food; and one of you say to them: Go in peace, be you warmed and filled; yet give them not those things, which are necessary for the body, what will it profit? Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.

GRAD. Ps. cvi. Let the mercies of the Lord praise him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. V. For he hath satisfied the empty soul; and hath filled the hungry soul with good things. Alleluia, Alleluia.
