fent the abfurd Idolatry in his time amongst the Romans: He died of a Dropfy miferably. He built a Temple at Jerufalem, on the Ruins of the other, and dedicated it to Jupiter.

Note farther, that vor ought to be twice read in that Verse, and then the fenfe is, That that miferable time kill'd him, and he was miferable before his Death.

And the People who were once very powerful fhall fay, The City fhall fall, knowing truly the evil time that was to come: Then they fhall all lament together, both Fathers and their young Children, the fad Fate of Rome, which they forefaw; and they fhall mourn on the nielancholy Banks of Tyber.

After Adrian, three fhall reign, who fhall continue to the laft Ages, fulfilling the time fignified by God's Name, whofe Empire is at prefent, and fhall laft for all Ages to

come.

Note, That isès makes 1480, Beds 284, (as in Xthe Margin) in all 1764; to which add An. Dom. ↑ 140, (when Adrian died, and from whence the Computation may be made) the total will be 1904. And this is the largest Computation that can be made, and is rather a Computation for the Deftruction of the Turkish Empire, which will fall out, according to the Revelations, in 1882.

One of the three (and the firft) fhall hold the Empire long, till he be old, and in this, refpect a miferable Prince, who fhall fhut up in his House all the Riches of the World, M 4

and there keep 'em, that when the Slayer of his Mother fhall come flying, and return from the ends of the World, he shall give away those Riches to all his Followers, and thereby enrich all Afia: And then thou fhalt lament the purple Glory of thy Emperors, when they fhall put it off, (loafe their Empire) and put on a mournful Gar

ment.

O boafting Prince, the Offspring of Latin Rome! thou shalt not enjoy any longer the Fame of thy Boafting; and thou, Unfortunate, fhalt never be reftor'd, but lie down (deftroy'd). And the Glory of the Legions, whofe Banners carry the Figures of Eagles, fhall fink. Where is thy Strength? What Land fhall fight for thee, who was brought into Slavery by thy vain and wicked Devices? For then fhall Men in all Countries be in confufion, when the Omnipotent fhall come and judge from his Throne the Souls of the Quick and the Dead, and all the World Then the Parents fhall hot love their Children, nor the Children their Parents, for the abundance of Impiety and fudden Affliction: From thence thou shalt have gnashing of Teeth, Difperfion, and Captivity, when the Cities fall, and the Earth opens (thro' Earthquakes.)

Note, That this old Prince is Conftantine the Great, who built Conftantinople, and carried the Riches of Rome thither. The Slayer of his Mother, is the Ottoman Family, who fled out of

Perfia, when they came into Afia; and they seiz'd on all Conftantine's Riches when they took Conftantinople, 1453; but they poffefs'd the Eaftern Part of the Empire anno 1300, and the Conftantinopolitans fhall never regain their Empire: It is call'd the Offspring of Latin Rome. The three laft who are to reign after Adrian, are, I. Conftantine 2. the Western Emperors; 3. the Turk; and the Turk muft prevail over all at laft, for he conquer'd the Conftantinopolitan Emperors, often invaded the Western Empire, and he muft continue to the end of the World the greatest Empire, and at laft burn Rome.

The fiery Dragon, when he fhall come fwimming on the Waves, having a Multitude in his Belly, and shall nourish thy Children in the time of Plague and Civil War, then the End of the World is near, and the Iaft Day, and the Judgment of the Juft and Here the Judg Elect by the Immortal God; but first the leat in the Mil inevitable Vengeance muft happen to the lennium is intiRomans; a bloody Time, and a mournful Life, fhall then be.

Alas for thee, O Land of Italy, a great barbarous Nation! thou doft not confider whence thou cameft, naked, and inglorious to the Light of the Sun; [i. e. they are the Offspring of the Goths, Lombards, and Normans, all Northern Nations.] that thou maist again return naked into the fame place, and at laft come to Judgment; for thou alone didft judge wickedly with thy Giant-like Hands (or Force) in all parts of the World. Thou shalt fall from an high state, and shalt

live low in the Earth; thou shalt vanish thro' much burning Fire, made by bitumi-. nous Naphtha (or Afphaltos) and Brimstone, and thou shalt become burning Afhes for ever, and every one who beholds thee hall hear a great Bellowing and Lamentation from Hades, and gnashing of Teeth, and the ftriking thy Atheistical Bofom with thine own Hands. The Rich will have an equal Night there with the Poor; they came naked out of the Earth, and they fhall return naked thither; as they encrease they die, finishing their Time: There is no Servant there, nor Lord, nor Tyrant, nor King, nor Commanders, being very proud; nor a Lawyer with his Eloquence, nor a Governour who judges for Gain, nor he that facrifices with Libations, or pours Blood on the Altars; neither does the Drum found, or the Cymbal, or the Pipe with many Holes, which disturbs the Mind by its Sound; nor the Litum, which bears the form of a Writhen or crooked Dragon; nor the Trumpet, which declares War by its barbarous Sound; nor they who are drunk in unlawful Banquets, nor Fornications, nor the Noife of the Harp, nor Inventions to occafion evil Works, nor Contention, nor various Anger, nor the Sword; but there is a common Age for all the Dead. The Keeper of the great Prison stands at the Throne of God: adorn your felves with polifh'd Gold, Silver, and Jewels, that you may come to the bitter Day. (the Time of its

Deftruction). O Rome! thou haft feen thy firft Punishment and Lamentation with gnashing of Teeth, (that is, by the Ignifer Draco.) Neither the Syrian, nor Grecian, nor Barbarian, nor other Nation, fhall become Slaves to thee. Thou shalt be deftroy'd, and fuffer Evil, for what thou haft done; and thou fhalt lament and tremble till thou haft paid for all. The World shall triumph over thee, and all fhall reproach

thee.

Note, The Ignifer Draco is Genfericus, with his Vandals who came, and plunder'd Rome, and burnt it, in the Fifth Century, and return'd into Afric. This is Rome's firft Punishment; and the Saracens burnt the Suburbs of Rome in the Ninth Century. The State of Hades is next defcrib'd, and Rome threatned with utter Ruine.

Note, The three in the Weft govern'd after Adrian; Conftantine, the Western Emperor, and the Turk: but in the Eaft the three are, the Eaftern Emperor, the Saracen, and Turk.

Then the Sixth Generation of the Latin Kings fhall begin, and continue to fulfill the last Age, and they fhall reign; and over the fame Generation another King shall reign, and govern all the Earth, and the Empire, and be an abfolute Prince, thro' the Decrees of the Great God; and the Childrens Children of this King shall remain unfhaken, for fo 'tis decreed in following Ages.
