The Fall of the

jurkish Empire

Thunder, and falling of their Cities, or the Countries where fome Cities ftood.

O Father of all! fpare the pleasant and fruitful Land of great Judea, that we may deliver thy Laws, (for this Land God first enrich'd by his Bounty) that it may appear to all Men to be the first of all other in thy Favour, and to excel all others, as God hath promis'd to it.

Note, That here the Sibyl speaks in the Perfon of a Jew, commending Judea, and praying that it may be spar'd when God deftroys the Turks by Plague, Famine, Thunder, Earthquakes, tua quo Decreta feramus, that they may inftruct all other Nations.

I defire, who am very unhappy, to cony many wars; template the Miferics of the Thracians, the third vial (that is, the Turks, who will inhabit it) and ivers and Foun- the. Wall with the Sea on each fide, (that is, ins, and they the Mole in the Harbour) reduc'd to Powder

came Blood,

in the Air, (that is, blown up) and drawn into a Pond full of Fifh, like a River.

O miferable Hellefpont! the Men of Assyria fhall captivate thee, the Thracians fhall fight against thee, and the King of Ægypt fhall depopulate Macedonia; and a barbarous Nation fhall break the Force of thy Commanders: The Lydians, Galatians, and Pamphylians in Pifidia, fhall arm all the People, and enter into a fad War.

Note,

Note, This is a Defcription of thofe Wars which will weaken the Turkish Empire, by the Affyrian's Invasion of Hellefpont, a Rebellion in Thrace, the Piracy of the King of Egypt in Macedonia, the War in Pifidia; and the barbarous Nation may be the Tartars.

O unhappy Italy! thou shalt remain a The Defolatio Wilderness, unlamented, in a fertile Soil; in Italy, with thy pernicious Land fhall be deftroy'd; the before the Fall many Prodigi large Heavens are fpread above, and from of Rome. T the Air all may hear the Voice of God, like poured on the the noife of Thunder: The Light of the Beat; and hi kingdom was Sun fhall not fhine like a Flame, nor the full of Darknef Moon have its Splendor any more, when It may compr God fhall reign in the latter Days, a black ftruction of Darkness fhall be thro' all the Earth, and Rome, which Men fhall be blind, and the wild Beasts furious; and that time fhall be miferable for a great while: So that Men may confider that God is King, by his Providence governing all things from Heaven; and He will have no Mercy on perverfe Men, who are his Enemies, tho' they facrifice Lambs, Sheep, and Herds of Calves that bellow, and great Beafts with golden Horns, to Mercuries without Life, and to Gods of Stone-Statues. Let the Law of Wisdom and the Glory of the Righteous lead you, left the Immortal God, being angry, deftroy all Mankind, their Provisions, and wicked Tribes. We ought always to love God our Father, who is wife, and will always exist.

Note, That here is defcrib'd the Defolation of Italy in the laft Days, and the Prodigies that will happen; the Voice of God fhall be heard like Thunder, the Sun and Moon thall appear more obfcurely, which will occafion a general Darknefs, and a miferable time, that Men may repent of their Idolatry. And the Idolatry of the Italians in these last Days, must be their worshiping of Saints and Images, which will continue there to the end of the World.

There fhall be in the last times, towards me at the end the end of the Moon, a War which will vex the World, full of Theft and PerfidioufEmpire's nefs. There fhall come from the ends of king). This is the Earth a cruel Man, a Slayer of his Moth Angel, to ther, void of Wisdom, of a fierce Speech, epare the way and an anxious Thinker, who fhall destroy the Kings of all the Earth, and conquer all; and he will confider all things more prudently than other Men, for which reafon he is destroy'd, and he fhall presently deftroy the fame; he fhall destroy many Men and great Princes, and burn their Countries, as another (the Turk) did before, and thro' Envy he shall fet up them that were fallen.

Note, This cruel Man must be fome Perfian or Tartarian Prince, who came from the most Northern or Eastern Parts, to conquer the Turk. His prudent Thought is, his confidering that a falfe Religion, fuch as Mahomet's, was the Occafion of his Misfortunes; and he will deftroy that, and fet up the Chriftian Princes. The Tartars are ufed to perfidious thievifh Depredations, of fierce Voices, and little Understanding.

Note, This is the Deftruction of the Turk by the help of the Chriftian Princes, who will affift the Macedonians to destroy the Turks; Fire from Heaven will help 'em. Thefe feem to agree with the Deftruction of the Turk, in Rev. 19, when Chrift comes.

O Slayers of your Mothers! ceafe from The Papal Confidence, and impudent evil Actions, who have invented impure Sodomy, and have appointed chaste Women for Whores in fhameful Houses, to their great injury, wrong, and difhonour; for amongst you K 4

the Mother lies with the Son after an unlawful manner, and the Daughter is married to the Father; amongst you, Kings have defil'd their unfortunate Mouths, and wicked Men have invented the lying with Beasts. Be filent, O deplorable wicked City (of Rome,) who giv't thy felf to Luxury! the young Veftal Virgins fhall not find the divine Fire any more in thee, with the Matter us'd to nourish it, for your Temple was destroy'd a long time fince; and I beheld the fecond Temple demolish'd, and utterly ruin'd and burnt with Fire, by impure Hands, a Temple that always flourifh'd, a Temple preferv'd by God, built by Saints, and (being immortal) to be defir'd from the Heart and Soul; for it praifes God without wearinefs, in no obfcure Land: Here the wife Builder never cut the Stones, nor is Gold (the Deceiver of Souls in the World) ador'd, but the Great Fa ther of all the Infpir'd; they fhall honour him by Sacrifices and holy Hecatombs.

Note, By the Matrum cafores the Popes must here be understood, because of their Cruelty to the Proteftants. Here their Sodomy, licenfing of Baudyhouses for Money, difpenfing with unlawful Marriages, diffolvingOaths and Marriage contracts among Princes, are noted; for these things Rome is call'd a wicked and luxurious City. The first ftate of Rome, whilft the Church was pure, is reprefented by the Vestal Virgins; but that being deftroy'd long fince, as the Veftal Temple was, the fecond ftate is reprefented by Conftantine's Temple,
