WITH the most profound humility and respect I have ventured to solicit your Majesty's permission to dedicate to your Majesty this little Manual of Private Devotion.

As the work is designed to en

courage and promote the more frequent exercise of a duty, the devout observance of which, although exceedingly necessary and important, is too much forgotten and neglected by Christians in general, it is presumed that its publication may not be altogether unseasonable.

The great regard your Majesty has at all times shewn to the practice of virtue and religion, while it sheds a lustre upon your exalted character, and diffuses around every class of your Majesty's subjects the most
