JUDGMENT. AT the Dreadful Day of Judgment the Dead shall be

raised froin their graves, and the souls and bodies of all who have ever lived and died shall be joined together again, and then we shall all have to appear before the Judgment Seat of CHRIST. Then He shall divide the Just from the Unjust, the Sheep from the Goats, His Friends from His Enemies. To those on His Right Hand, He shall say, “Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” To those on His Left Hand, He shall say, “Depart, from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his Angels” (St. Matt. xxv. 31, 46).

“In the hour of our Death, and in the Day of Judgment, Good LORD JESUS, deliver us, miserable sinners. Amen."

HEAVEN

HEAVEN will be the everlasting Home of all CHRIST'S

Faithful People. There they will live for ever, with bodies freed from all weakness and pain, and with souls delivered from all sin and sorrow.

But the Chief Joy of Heaven will be, that we shall there have the blessedness of seeing JESUS in His Glory, yet still manifested in that same Human Body in which He suffered upon the Cross, and with which He ascended from the Mount of Olives.

This happy Immortality and life of everlasting Joy has been purchased for us by His Most Precious Sufferings and Death, willingly endured for our Salvation.

“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him” (1 Cor. ii. 91.

HELL.

HELL is the place in which the enemies of God suffer

the penalty of all their sins, and endure the sentencə of Eternal Death. From Hell there is no deliverance. In Hell there is no ray of Hope. For there the wicked “shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the Presence of the LORD” (2 Thess. i. 9). There they shall be destroyed, "both body and soul” (St. Matt. x. 28). Hell is described in the most awful language that can be conceived. It is called the “unquenchable fire” that shall burn up the Chaff (St. Matt. ii. 12); “the Furnace of fire” in which shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth; the “ Lake of fire ” prepared for the Devil and his Angels ; and the “Outer Darkness," the abode of those who have rejected JESUS the true Light.

The pains of Hell will be twofold, "the pains of loss," and “the pains of sense.” The pains of loss will consist in everlasting exclusion from the Joys of Heaven. The pains of sense will consist in the sufferings that each condemned sinner will have to endure, in proportion to his misdeeds, and in proportion to the light and grace against which he has sinned. Some will be beaten with

many stripes,” and some with "few stripes” (St. Luke xii. 47).

How many and grievous will be our stripes, should we fall away from Christ, and choose our portion aniong His enemies. To save us from Hell, the LORD JESUS has suffered abundantly, and has died a death of agony. To save us from Hell He invites us to come unto Him, that we may have Everlasting life.

“O Saviour of the World, Who by Thy Cross and Precious Blood hast redeemed us, save us and help us, we humbly beseech Thee, O LORD.”

The Christian seasons.

IN oriler that we may grow in grace, and in the knowledge

and love of our LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST, it is most important that we should religiously observe the Sacred Seasons appointed by the Church. They are as follows:

ADVENT. We observe the season of Advent for about four weeks before Christmas. “Advent” signifies “coming," and during this season we think and pray much, concerning the Coming of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. We look back to the time when, nearly nineteen hundred years ago, He came in great humility to suffer and to die for our sins; and we look forward to the time of His Second Advent, when He will come again with power and great glory, to raise the dead, to judge the world, and to take His people to Himself in His Heavenly Kingdom.

CHRISTMAS. Christmas is the joyful Festival in which we commemorate the Birth of our Divine SAVIOUR--God made Man. At Christmas we reflect how He was born of Mary, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in His manger bed at Bethlehem. And then we unite with the Faithful Shepherds, and also with the Angels and Archangels, and all the Company of Heaven, in falling down to worship the Holy Child JESUS, Who, though He was rich in Heaven, yet, for our sakes became poor upon earth, that we, through His Poverty, might be made rich.

On the eighth and last day of the Christmas Festival, we commemorate the Circumcision of our Lord, when He received the Holy Name of JESUS, which signifies “Sav

iour."

EPIPHANY. At the Festival of Epiphany we commemorate the Manifestation of JESUS CHRIST to the Gentiles. While He was yet a Babe at Bethlehem, certain Wise Men of the East, guided by a Mysterious Star, sought for Him, and when they had found Him, they fell down and worshipped Him, and offered to Him their costly giftstheir gold, their frankincense, and their myrrh. These wise men were Gentiles. Hence we call the day on which they found the LORD, the “Epiphany,” or manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles.

LENT. Lent is a Season of Forty Days which the Church observes each year as a solemn Fast. She does so, because her Divine LORD JESUS CHRist fasted for Forty Days in the Wilderness of Judæa, soon after He had been baptized by St. John the Baptist in the River Jordan. During this Forty Days, He was tempted by the Devil, and was with the wild beasts.

Those who love the LORD JESUS CHRisT should strive to keep Lent as a sacred fast. During Lent marriages should not take place, and during the whole Forty Days, Christians should shun feasts and gay parties of all kinds. At the beginning of Lent we observe a Day called “ Ash WEDNESDAY," on which we are called upon to humble ourselves in dust and ashes, on account of our many sins. Near the end of Lent comes another great day, the saddest day in all the year, and this we call

GOOD FRIDAY, the day on which our LORD JESUS CHRIST suffered death for our sins. On that day He was condemned by Pontius Pilate, scourged, mocked, spit upon, crowned with thorns, and crucified between two thieves. On that same day, when the evening was come, He, the Lord of Life, was laid cold and dead in the silent tomb, and there He remained till the morning of the Third Day, the Day of His Glorious Resurrection.

EASTER DAY. Easter Day, the First Day of the Week, and the third day from the Crucifixion, is the glorious and joyful Festival on which our Blessed JESUS rose again from His Grave. First, very early in the morning, He showed Himself alive to St Mary Magdalene ; then to the other Holy Women; then to St Peter; then to two of the Disciples who were walking out of Jerusalen into the country; and, finally, in the evening, to the assembled Apostles. To them he pointed out the Wounds in His Hands and His Feet, and to prove to them the reality of His Risen Body, He said, “Handle Me and see, for a spirit hath not Flesh and Bones as ye see Me have.” And to make assurance doubly sure, “ He took a piece of a broiled fish and of an honeycomb, and did eat before them” (St. Luke xxiv. 42).

ASCENSION DAY. On this Great Festival, forty days after Easter Sunday, we commemorate the Ascension of our Blessed LORD into Heaven. With the same Body in which He had suffered on the Cross, and with which He had risen from the dead, He went up into Heaven. First He led His Disciples to the Mount of Olives, then He lifted up His hands to bless them, and while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Thus He went up to Heaven, and thus He will come again at the end of the world, when we shall all see Him coming with clouds, in great glory.

WHITSUNDAY. Ten days after our LORD had gone up to Heaven, and according to His most true promise to His Apostles, He sent down the Holy Spirit upon them, to be their Comforter and Guide. So the HOLY SPIRIT came down from Heaven in Tongues of Fire, lighting upon their heads, to teach them, and to guide them into all truth. And, therefore, it is, that on this tenth day after the Feast of the Ascension, we observe Whitsunday, or the Day of Pentecost, in memory of that Great Event, and in honour of the Ever blessed SPIRIT OF GOD. These Christian Seasons come to a glorious end in

THE FESTIVAL OF THE HOLY TRINITY, on which we sing HoLY, HOLY, HOLY, THREE in ONE, and ONE in THREE.
